Celebrating 10 years of walking again Ten years ago, Karen Martin had lifesaving surgery at Kings College Hospital in London, followed by 4 months of intensive rehabilitation at the National Spinal Injury Centre here at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The treatment she received helped her regain her speech, bodily functions, and hand function, as well as learn to walk again! To mark this milestone, Karen decided to throw a disco to raise money for Stoke Mandeville Spinal Research and the vital research we fund to help people with spinal cord injury improve their quality of life. Karen invited her friends and asked them for a minimum £5 donation per ticket. She then also asked for donations in return for making music requests on the night and ran a raffle. Karen’s initial aim was to raise £500; in the end she raised over £2000 including Gift Aid! Thank you, Karen! Here are some photos of the great night! Manage Cookie Preferences
