SMSR welcomes VIP supporters! On the 4th of September, staff at Stoke Mandeville Spinal Research (SMSR) were delighted to host Trustees and other representatives of the Heart of Bucks Community Foundation, as well as Pippa Kirkbride, High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, and George Anson, Deputy Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, at the National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC), Stoke Mandeville. We were joined by SMSR Ambassador, Jason Gunn, and Sarah Timms from the NSIC, who demonstrated the SEM Glove, a wearable robotic device that enhances grip strength through touch sensors in the fingertips that detect grip intention. The device then provides proportional extra force to assist with tasks requiring grip, helping people with weak hands, such as those with tetraplegia, in daily life and rehabilitation settings. The SEM Glove was clinically tested by researchers at the NSIC, with the support of Stoke Mandeville Spinal Research and the generous help of the Heart of Bucks Community Foundation.
